A 30-page report published earlier this month by Thomson Reuters has identified the City of Belleville as a main hub for human and sex trafficking.
Between 2014 and 2024, Statistics Canada recorded 3,228 police-reported incidents — roughly 64% of all reported incidents in Canada — with 374 reported in 2024 alone.
Today on the MIX Morning Show, Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal welcome Jo-Joe Van Hooser from Ottawa Children’s’ Aid Society, to highlight human and sex trafficking in the Quinte area.
Women and girls, particularly young women, make up the overwhelming majority of identified victims, while both sexual and labour exploitation occur.
