Organized by the Belleville Caribbean African Community Organization, this vibrant, family-friendly event celebrates Caribbean culture with a parade, live music, and food vendors.

On Thursday, Raquel Huggins from Montreal joined Sean Kelly, Mariam Serkal and Alana Cameron to share her excitement about joining the parade with her group Celestial Mas.

Mas is much more than costumes and partying: it has roots in colonialism, emancipation, African cultural survival, resistance and reclaiming public space.

The 2026 Belleville Caribbean Festival Grand Parade takes place on Saturday at 1pm. The parade begins at the Quinte Courthouse, heads across Bridge Street West, and moves north onto Front Street for a vibrant hour of music, costumes, and culture.

Between 2014 and 2024, Statistics Canada recorded 3,228 police-reported incidents — roughly 64% of all reported incidents in Canada — with 374 reported in 2024 alone. 

Today on the MIX Morning Show, Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal welcome Jo-Joe Van Hooser from Ottawa Children’s’ Aid Society, to highlight human and sex trafficking in the Quinte area.

Women and girls, particularly young women, make up the overwhelming majority of identified victims, while both sexual and labour exploitation occur.

Today on the MIX Morning Show, Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal sat down with Dr Julie Gowthorpe RSW to talk about whether you can actually get the summertime blues.

We often associate seasonal depression with winter, but there is also a less common summer pattern of seasonal depression.

Earlier clinical research identified winter and summer depression as two different seasonal patterns that can even involve different physical symptoms.

Temperature and day length were also associated with depression severity, but those relationships differed significantly from person to person.

People’s fear of financial distress weighs heavily all the time and when you are adding camps, day trips, amusement parks, concerts, full out weeks away, it is a lot.

When people are stressed, arguing and tension can increase.

Children do not need a major activity every day. In fact, too much planning can leave everyone overstimulated and exhausted.

Some of the best summer memories come from simple things, like splash pads, bike rides, or staying outside until sunset.

From August 14-16, the fifth annual Belleville will host its best cultural festival to celebrate all things Caribbean, including good food, good music and good vibes.

Carlos Merchant aka DJ MrSolo, organizer of the festival, joined Sean Kelly, Mariam Serkal and Alana Cameron encouraged musicians and artists to reach out and showcase their talent at the Belleville Caribbean Festival.

The parade kicks off at 1pm on Saturday 15, 2026 at Downtown Belleville.

This morning, Sean Kelly, Mariam Serkal and Dr Julie Gowthorpe RSW address a complication situation: What happens when your spouse begins talking about their childhood, and suddenly, you’re furious with your in-laws?

When someone we love tells us they were hurt, our protective system switches on. We think, “You deserved better. Someone should have protected you.” So that anger comes from love.

Children often activate parts of our own childhood. A child may be loud, emotional, stubborn, or defiant. That can be normal behaviour, but the parent’s nervous system remembers, I was punished when I acted that way. The reaction may feel as though it is about the child, when it is partly about the parent’s own history. Remind yourself, “this is my child, not my childhood.”
