Chris “Rut” Rutledge died on Monday at 68.

Jack Miller called Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal to share his memories of Rut, who was  best known for his decades with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League, as well as the Belleville and Trenton Bobcats, the Quinte West Pack, and the Tweed Oil Kings senior club.

When we lose evening sunlight, our circadian rhythm, our body’s internal clock, has to adjust. Changes in daylight can affect serotonin, which influences mood, and melatonin, which regulates sleep. So, if you’re feeling heavy, you’re not lazy or unmotivated. Your body is adjusting to a seasonal change.

First game’s on Friday against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7 pm, and then the B-Sens will face the Toronto Marlies on Sunday at 1 pm.

One of the biggest signs of feeling psychologically unsafe at work is being anxious about interacting with a particular person. You might find yourself documenting every conversation, rehearsing what you’re going to say, or worrying about how they’ll react.

You replay conversations during your drive home from work, you wake up at night ruminating.

When you feel psychologically safe, you can ask questions, make mistakes, disagree, or raise concerns without worrying that you’ll be embarrassed or punished.

Now, that doesn’t mean everyone has to get along. Difficult conversations are part of work. But you should be able to have those conversations without feeling that the organization is going to turn around and make you the problem.

You’ll be able to hear directly from industry professionals, partners and youth who have already started their construction career journeys.

On Tuesday, Jodie Jenkins and Mariam Serkal welcome Sandi Ramsay, Chief Executive Officer for the Centre for Workforce Development, who called MIX 97 studio to invite students and job seekers to the career fair.

The event is led by Quinte Home Builder’s Association (QHBA) in partnership with the Centre for Workforce Development (CFWD), Loyalist College, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Algonquin & Lakeshore and Hastings & Prince Edward District School Boards and the City of Belleville.

● A family emergency doesn’t stand in the way of graduation
● A lack of food doesn’t stand in the way of graduation
● No barrier—whether hunger, financial crisis, or personal adversity—should stand in the way of a student’s success and path to graduation

How can it be dealt, especially when the person creating the problem is a supervisor. And why does that power difference matter so much?

Workplace harassment is not simply about hurt feelings. When someone feels threatened, humiliated, watched, or unsafe over time, it can affect sleep, physical health, confidence, relationships, and their ability to function.

And for organizations, having a respectful-workplace policy is not enough.

The real test is whether people can raise concerns safely, whether feedback is fair and clear, and whether people with power are held to the same standards as everyone else. It is not only about whether one person is disciplined. It is whether the workplace actually becomes safer afterwards.

It is a day to remember the children who died at residential schools, honour survivors and their families, and recognize the ongoing effects of the residential school system on Indigenous peoples and communities.

On Tuesday, Jodie Jenkins and Mariam Serkal welcomed singer-songwriter Jonathon Maracle to the MIX Morning Show to learn what Truth and Reconciliation Day means and what it stands for.

The City of Belleville will be hosting a special ceremony in Market Square beginning at 11 am to honour this event.

The ceremony will include opening remarks, a musical performance by Jonathon Maracle of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, storytelling from Sheri Clarke, as well as a Sacred Fire and special presentation by Fire Keeper Greg Loft.

Attendees are encouraged to wear orange in honour of Orange Shirt Day.
