Canadians really do have a reputation around the world for being polite. We hold doors. We say “sorry” when someone bumps into us.

But we have to be careful with stereotypes. Canada is regional, multicultural, and diverse. Someone in downtown Toronto, rural Nova Scotia, northern Ontario, and Vancouver may all communicate differently.

But as a national habit, we do seem to value friendliness, modesty, and not making a scene. That can be a strength. It can also become a problem when being “nice” means never saying what we actually think or need.

Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal want to know, how much does an average wedding cost here in the Quinte Region?

We should also remember that children watch how we handle being wrong. If we deny, blame, or minimize, they learn to hide mistakes. If we say, “I made a poor choice, and I am going to fix it,” they learn that honesty is safe and repair is possible. Educators are experiencing this when they are trying to teach accountability.

Sean Kelly, Mariam Serkal and Alana Cameron chat with Stuart this morning, who explained that people who want to spend their summer outdoors have to be wary of mosquitos, and never leave home without the insect repellant.

Common breeding areas include clogged eavestroughs, bird baths, buckets, and other containers that collect water.

Mosquitoes can develop from egg to adult in as little as three days during hot weather.

Coach Campbell just signed a three-year contract.

The five-leg cross-country fitness challenge involves: running, cycling, canoeing/kayaking, and swimming, finishing up with more running.

Contestants competed over 25 km of terrain, spanning the CFB Trenton and Quinte area, with a medal presented for the overall top finishers.

Preschool children usually need about 10 to 13 hours of sleep over 24 hours.

Children between six and twelve need approximately 9 to 12 hours, while teenagers generally need 8 to 10 hours. Now, these are ranges rather than exact rules.

During adolescence, the body’s internal clock naturally shifts later. Many teens become sleepy later but still need to wake early for school.

Homework, stress, caffeine, gaming and social media can delay sleep even more.
