We all make mistakes. Every one of us. But the real question is: what do we do after the mistake? Do we own it? Or do we rush to explain it away?
Today, Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal talk with Dr Julie Gowthorpe RSW about excuses, accountability, and why saying “I didn’t mean to” is not always enough.
We should also remember that children watch how we handle being wrong. If we deny, blame, or minimize, they learn to hide mistakes. If we say, “I made a poor choice, and I am going to fix it,” they learn that honesty is safe and repair is possible. Educators are experiencing this when they are trying to teach accountability.
