The World Cup final is happening Sunday at 3:00 p.m., but the closing ceremony is going to be a full-on celebrity event. Tom Cruise and Nicole Scherzinger are set to headline the show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. And the halftime entertainment is stacked too — Justin Bieber will perform alongside Madonna and Coldplay. Plus, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson will sing the national anthem. Basically, even the halftime show needs a halftime show.
Jennifer Lopez is still getting roasted online after her Wimbledon appearance. The tournament is over, but fans are still talking about her giant oversized straw hat. The Wimbledon Royal Box has a rule that women shouldn’t wear hats that block other people’s views. One fan joked that J-Lo’s hat was so big it could “cast a shadow over St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.” That is a serious hat.
Shia LaBeouf had a pretty uncomfortable encounter with a woman who has allegedly been following him for months and claims they’re married. Shia walked up to her car and told her, “God bless you. Leave me alone.” He also said she was scaring his dad and the people around him. Not exactly the celebrity meet-and-greet anyone wants.
Hailey Bieber is getting into denim. She’s teaming up with Gap for a new collection called “The Hailey Jean,” inspired by oversized vintage jeans and that very ’90s look. The collection drops July 16th and includes extra baggy and low-rise styles. And yes, because it’s celebrity denim, even the inside of the pocket gets a special Hailey touch.
The Writers Guild of America is trying to stop Paramount Skydance’s massive $111-billion deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery. The WGA says the merger could mean fewer opportunities and lower pay for writers. Paramount says the opposite — that the deal would actually create more opportunities. So basically, Hollywood’s biggest writers are fighting over who gets to write the next chapter.
Speaking of Hollywood classics… “Gone With The Wind” is getting a makeover. The movie is coming to 4K UHD on November 3rd with new bonus features looking back at the film’s history, restoration, and Vivien Leigh’s famous performance as Scarlett O’Hara. The movie won 10 Oscars — and now it’s getting a very fancy upgrade.
The Chipmunks are coming back! A new “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie is in the works, but don’t expect it anytime soon. The reboot isn’t hitting theaters until late 2028. The plan is to build up a younger audience online first. Fans are excited… although some are already warning Hollywood: please don’t make an “AI-generated Chipmunks nightmare.”
A new “G.I. Joe” movie is also moving forward. Danny McBride wrote the script, and after Chris Hemsworth exited the project, Bradley Cooper is reportedly stepping in. Paramount hopes to start filming later this year.
And finally… movie fans are paying some serious money for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” Some tickets for IMAX screenings are being resold online for hundreds of dollars — with some going for around $600. The movie opens Friday and features a huge cast including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and Matt Damon as Odysseus. Three hours, rated R, giant IMAX screen… apparently some people decided that wasn’t expensive enough, so they added a resale fee.
