Its February 2nd – and the first day Carey Smith-Dewey starts her new role as Director of Education at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board.
Carey’s professional journey has been rooted in the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board from the very beginning. After graduating from Nicholson Catholic College, she continued her studies in education at the post-secondary level.

Carey has worked as an elementary and secondary teacher in the Hastings and Prince Edward area before becoming a Vice-principal at St. Paul Catholic Secondary School in Trenton and Principal of St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School in Belleville. In 2020, Carey transitioned to the role of Superintendent of Education at the Board Office in Napanee. During her time as Superintendent of Education, Carey was a strong advocate for inclusive, and safe learning environments for all students.
