There’s a common feeling that is hitting people right about now. The goal is still there but the motivation isn’t, and doubt about whether you can achieve what you set out to do.
This morning with Sean Kelly, Mariam Serkal and Dr Julie Gowthorpe, RSW, they discuss whether New Year’s resolutions should be ditched or not once the motivation is gone.
First, change the question from ‘how do I force myself’, to ‘how do I make this easier?’ That question changes everything. Most people choose a goal and then choose the harshest method because they think this means they are taking it seriously.
Instead, according to Dr Julie, keep the goal but change how you are going to reach it by asking, ‘what can I do’ to get there.
You have to make the present moment part of the reward system. Reaching goals requires repetition and consistency from saving money to fitness, to relationship betterment. There are no one shot wonders.
