Okay this is weird…. I have a lot of questions!
6 nominations for Shawn Mendes but none for Drake which has me wondering why?
Shawn scored nods for artist, songwriter, album and pop album of the year plus single of the year for “In My Blood” and for the Juno fan choice award. The Weeknd has 5, Loud Luxury and Bulow with 4, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Tory Lanez, Hubert Lenoir, Killy and Bahamas with 3 nominations.
We have so many amazing and talented artists in Canada but wait a minute!
Where is Drake? He is a household name and had a stellar and year and our biggest musical export around the globe!
Big numbers with streaming, video views and sales of singles and his “Scorpion” album. Had The Billboard Hot 100 Song Of The Year with “God’s Plan” and scored many other accolades. Why isn’t Drake being recognized at the shrine of Canadian Music Sunday March 17 in London Ontario hosted by Sarah McClachlin?
The CBC said according to Allan Reid, president of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts, the Toronto rapper did not submit his music for consideration. Last year, he chose not to submit his mixtape “More Life for the Junos and The Grammys.”
Reid said “It’s unfortunate he chose not to submit, and hopefully, he will come back!
Did Drake and his label forget about his home and native land and beloved country at the biggest show in Canadian Music or does he have a beef with the Juno Awards a show he hosted in 2011?
Drake did submit “Scorpion” for consideration at this year’s Grammy’s taking place February 10 at the Staples Center in LA hosted by Alicia Keyes. The album is up for seven awards, including best record, album and song of the year.
Should artists and record companies be responsible for the submission of their songs or should The Juno committee determine who gets nominated?
