National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed every year on September 30.
It is a day to remember the children who died at residential schools, honour survivors and their families, and recognize the ongoing effects of the residential school system on Indigenous peoples and communities.
On Tuesday, Jodie Jenkins and Mariam Serkal welcomed singer-songwriter Jonathon Maracle to the MIX Morning Show to learn what Truth and Reconciliation Day means and what it stands for.

The City of Belleville will be hosting a special ceremony in Market Square beginning at 11 am to honour this event.
The ceremony will include opening remarks, a musical performance by Jonathon Maracle of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, storytelling from Sheri Clarke, as well as a Sacred Fire and special presentation by Fire Keeper Greg Loft.
Attendees are encouraged to wear orange in honour of Orange Shirt Day.
