Whether you’ve watched Your Friends and Neighbors with Jon Hamm, Desperate Housewives, or reality shows like Fear thy Neighbor, people are intrigued by neighbourhoods.
Today, Sean Kelly, Mariam Serkal and Dr Julie Gowthorpe RSW talk about what happens when you are having problems with your neighbors, and the impact on your mental health.
Usually it’s a mismatch in expectations or lifestyle. Maybe one person loves to host parties late into the night while the other needs quiet to get their kids to bed. Sometimes it’s about physical space, some people like their yard to be a certain way and the neighbor moves in and does the opposite.
If you want to be a good neighbor, start small. Show respect by keeping your space in good shape, being mindful of noise, and thinking ahead about how your actions might affect others.
And if you notice something unusual, like their car hasn’t moved in days or a package has been sitting out, check in.
