Ever thought you could wait until you’re older to worry about your health? Well, a massive study published in Nature Medicine might change your mind. It followed over 100,000 Americans in their 40s, 50s, and 60s for up to 30 years—and the results are pretty eye-opening.
The big takeaway? A healthy diet earlier in life is closely linked to a higher chance of aging well. And here’s the kicker—this was true even for people who weren’t active or who smoked!
So, what does “healthy aging” mean in this study? It’s all about making it to 70 without chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure, and without struggling with mental, physical, or cognitive issues.
As for the diet that worked best, it’s no surprise: Think fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, legumes, unsaturated fats, and low-fat dairy. On the flip side, diets packed with trans fats, too much salt, sugary drinks, and processed meats? Not so great for aging well.
It looks like the time to start taking care of yourself is now—no matter your age!
