Why are people so rude these days? Where have all the manners gone?
Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal caught up with Dr Julie Gowthorpe, RSW this morning, talking about the lost art of good manners and how to respond to rudeness.
A Harvard study found that a lack of manners makes people lonely and anxious, especially among young adults.
To the contrary, positive social interactions, meaning those with manners, decrease stress and improve mental health. You can’t have good connection without manners unless you are in a group of lawless people, that may be different.
Dr Julie also pointed out that manners aren’t about ignoring their needs but recognizing that others have needs too. It’s about understanding that both they and others deserve kindness.
