You know, Leap Day is one of those quirky things, right? I mean, it’s fun because it only comes around once every four years, but then you realize, wait a minute, you’re basically working for free today. Like, if you’re on salary, you’re putting in one extra day this year without any extra cash coming your way. And what’s weird is that even when the 29th falls on a weekend, you’re still kind of stuck.
So, think about it: normally, six days of the week happen 52 times in a year, right? But in Leap Years, two days get that extra bump to 53 times. This time, we luck out with an extra Monday and Tuesday. But remember four years ago when it fell on a Saturday? We ended up with Wednesday and Thursday as the bonus days.
Now, if you’re getting paid by the hour, none of this really matters. It’s more about folks who have a fixed annual salary. And there’s this whole ongoing debate about whether Leap Day should be an official paid holiday or if there should be some kind of bonus involved.
Oh, and speaking of future Leap Days, did you know we’ll get an extra Saturday and Sunday in 2028? Just a little heads up for you.
