Today on the MIX 97 Morning Show, Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal sit down with Dr Julie Gowthorpe, RSW and delving into a sensitive yet essential topic: coping with emotional oversharing, or what’s increasingly known as trauma dumping.

Emotional oversharing occurs when someone shares personal, often emotional, information in a way that’s excessive for the context or the depth of the relationship. Trauma dumping is a form of this, where a person offloads their traumatic experiences, often without warning or consent from the listener.

A study from the University of Pennsylvania also noted that people might feel detached from the personal nature of what they’re sharing online, leading to oversharing without considering the potential impact on their audience or on how they are viewed by others.
