Kids, teens and post secondary students are back at school.
Today on the MIX Morning Show, Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal invited Dr Julie Gowthorpe, RSW and Director of Education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board Katherine MacIver, in Studio 97.
They talked about why school attendance is the main indicator of success, and how can people make this happen in their family.

Every time a student stays home from school because they are anxious, they are forming an avoidant pattern. They are training their brain and body to not approach what feels uncomfortable.
LISTEN:
In contrast, if you develop strategies to approach situations that cause discomfort, such as anxiety, and then practice these strategies, by going to school every day, or work, you are empowering yourself to manage symptoms. This is called exposure therapy.
