Having trouble prying your folks away from the Facebook vortex? Well, guess what? The typical senior citizen is giving those youngsters a run for their “scrolling” fingers! In fact, a recent survey, where they asked 2,000 of our seasoned citizens aged 65 and up, unearthed some rather entertaining social media stats.
So, get this: 24% of these senior stars are clocking over an hour a day on social media. Yes, you heard that right. They’re putting in the hours, and it’s not just to post pictures of their beloved grandkids. Now, where are they hanging out the most? Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram are their virtual playgrounds. These seniors are basically the social media cool kids.
But it’s not all just for fun. Well, maybe it is. A whopping 54% of our golden-agers confessed they’re using social media to kill time. They’ve got wisdom for days, and they’re sharing it one meme at a time. And here’s the kicker: 39% of them have actually made new pals in the digital realm. Who knew Grandma and Grandpa could become online BFFs with strangers?
But before you start thinking your folks are living their best online lives, beware of the dark side. You see, scams and misinformation are like the potholes on the information superhighway for our seniors. A whopping 34% admitted they’ve been duped by a supposedly trustworthy source. And 33%? Well, they’ve got the t-shirts and mugs from the “I got scammed” club. It seems age doesn’t always come with digital street smarts.
Seniors on social media, living their best life and dodging digital landmines, one status update at a time!
