Did you hear about Elon Musk’s latest rocket launch? It was supposed to be a historic event, but it turned out to be a real blast – literally! On Thursday, SpaceX sent the world’s largest rocket up into the Texas desert, hoping to one day use it to take people to Mars. But things didn’t quite go as planned.
Just a few minutes into the flight, the rocket – called the Starship – exploded in a spectacular fashion. I mean, we’re talking flames, smoke, and shrapnel flying everywhere! It was like something out of a Michael Bay movie. And what did SpaceX have to say about it? Well, they called it a “rapid unscheduled disassembly.” I’m sorry, what? That’s like calling a hurricane a “windy day.”
Despite the setback, Elon Musk seemed pretty upbeat about the whole thing. He tweeted that they had “learned a lot” from the explosion and that they’d be ready to try again in a few months. I mean, if anyone knows how to turn a disaster into an opportunity, it’s Elon.
Of course, this isn’t the first time SpaceX has had a rocket blow up on them. It’s kind of become their thing, like a Wile E. Coyote cartoon come to life. But hey, at least no one was on board this time, right? And let’s be honest, the internet was probably more entertained by the explosion than they would have been by a successful launch.
So what’s next for the Starship? Well, SpaceX says it’s still planning to use it to take people to the moon and Mars, but they’ll need to figure out how to keep it from “rapidly disassembling” first. Yeah, no kidding. I’m no rocket scientist, but I’m pretty sure that’s a key feature for a rocket.
All in all, it was a pretty wild ride, and it gave Twitter plenty of material to work with. My personal favorite tweet came from George Conway, who asked if Twitter was also undergoing a “rapid unscheduled disassembly.” Touché, George. Touché.
