Some people throw away stuff they think might be cursed, and others apparently zip tie those items to fish.
A competitor in a fishing tournament on Lake Michigan Friday reeled in a steelhead with a wedding ring attached to its tail by a zip tie, which of course raised a lot of questions.
On Monday the former owner of the wedding band came forward and explained that he got rid of his ring seven weeks ago. He said his decade-long marriage ended four years ago, and he thought this would be a poetic way to discard his ring. He added, “I am a fishing guide; she was always against me following my dreams and hated how much I fished.”
The fish was caught by Joe Penar during the aforementioned Pass the Passion tournament, and he joked that he’s had issues with his boat since catching the “cursed” ring.
