Some students have already filed suit against colleges and universities over the admissions bribery scandal, dubed by the internet as ‘Operation Varsity Blues’, in which wealthy parents, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, paid to rig their children’s standardized exams and bribe coaches to have their children designated as recruited athletes in sports they didn’t play.
Several students have brought a class action complaint against schools involved in the scandal, including Yale, Georgetown and Stanford,
charging they and others were denied a fair chance at admission. They are seeking damages and the return of application fees for themselves and other school applicants.
The lawsuit charges, “Each of the universities took the students’ admission application fees while failing to take adequate steps to ensure that their admissions process was fair and free of fraud, bribery, cheating and dishonesty.” But colleges have said they were also victimized by the scandal, and have fired or suspended the coaches involved.
Legal experts are saying the students could have a hard time in getting the colleges to be found legally responsible.
One woman is going all out!!!!
Californian Jennifer Toy is suing Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin and the other parents involved in the college entrance bribery scandal.
She is seeking $500 billion and says her son, Joshua, didn’t get into the cheating schools even though he had a 4.2 grade-point average.
Quote…. “I’m now outraged and hurt because I feel that my son, my only child, was denied access to a college not because he failed to work and study hard enough but because wealthy individuals felt that it was OK to lie, cheat, steal and bribe their children’s way into a good college.”
I think she’ll have a tough time with that lawsuit to be honest…What do you think?
