YouTube said yesterday that it will remove the ability to leave comments on nearly all videos that feature children, making the change after reports last week that pedophiles were leaving inappropriate comments on videos of children.
It will take several months for comments to be disabled on all videos featuring children.
Several advertisers had pulled their ads from YouTube after the reports.
A small number of YouTube channels that have videos featuring children will be able to keep comments turned on, but they must be known to YouTube and will have to actively monitor the comments beyond the standard monitoring YouTube provides.
