You ever open a container of leftover chicken, give it a sniff and think, “Seems fine”?
That’s a lot of responsibility to give the same nose that didn’t notice you’d left the garbage in the car.
The USDA says cooked chicken should be eaten within three to four days, provided it was refrigerated promptly and kept cold. If you won’t finish it in that time, freeze it.
And looking or smelling okay doesn’t guarantee food is safe. So “it passed the sniff test” isn’t quite the scientific assessment we hoped it was.
If you meal-prep on Sunday, freeze the chicken portions you’re saving for later in the week. You can still be organized without turning Friday’s lunch into a gamble.
Because saving money on groceries is great.
Spending the afternoon regretting a chicken wrap? Less great.
