Here’s a wild one… researchers say when a major artist drops a new album, there’s actually a spike in traffic deaths.
A working paper connected to Harvard Medical School looked at the ten most-streamed albums between 2017 and 2022 — from huge artists like Taylor Swift and Drake.
On the days those albums were released, streaming jumped by about 40 percent… and traffic fatalities went up 15 percent.
Researchers checked all the obvious reasons too — holidays, weekends, even whether drivers were sober — and the spike still showed up.
The biggest clue? The increase was even more noticeable in cars with Apple CarPlay, which lets people control music from their phones through the car screen.
So basically… people are driving and going,
“Hold on, hold on… track three just dropped!”
It turns out the danger isn’t partying — it’s people messing with their playlists while driving because they’re excited about a new album.
Which honestly makes sense… we’ve all done it.
You’re driving along like,
“Okay I’m not touching my phone… I’m not touching my phone… okay but I HAVE to hear the next song.”
So researchers say the lesson here is pretty simple…
When your favorite artist drops a new album — maybe listen to it at home first… not while merging onto the highway.
