Between 2001 and 2021, the number of Canadians aged 85 and older doubled and the number has continued to increase.
This morning on the MIX Morning Show, Sean Kelly and Mariam Serkal sit down with Dr Julie Gowthorpe, RSW and Jennifer Aronson – an elder care therapist – to discuss an important topic that affects so many families and listeners: how we care for our older adults.
Many older adults face declining mobility, cognition, and increasing frailty as they age, often requiring specialized care.
We also need to reconsider how this can’t be a one size fits all to providing ideal support in our aging years. Not everyone likes crafts and bingo. We need to think about how aging has changed.
One of the biggest challenges for elderly people is the transition from living independently to needing more support.
Many are not aware of the private and public sector resources available to help meet their care needs.
