It’s that time of year again.
When all the snow is gone, all the trash that has built up over the winter is exposed, and the world just kind of has that musty, muddy smell. You all know what smell I’m talking about; don’t deny it.
This is where the Quinte Trash Bash comes in.
Every year, groups get together in all the surrounding communities to clean up from the winter and clean up the communities.
Last year alone, the communities collected the following:
Belleville = 1.24 tonnes
Tyendinaga = 3.97 tonnes
Quinte West = 1.72 tonnes
PEC = 4.4 tonnes
This year’s trash bash is Saturday, April 20th. The community challenge is on again this year. Here is what you need to do!
1. Go to the Quinte Trash Bash to register and pick the area you want to help clean.
2. Pick up litter on the 20th; supplies will be provided to you at designated pick-up sites.
3. Bring your garbage to the drop-off sites between 9 and 1.
A couple things to remember: if the item is too big, do not pick it up; you can let your community rep know and they will arrange for the item to be picked up; and if you find any items that are considered dangerous, like needles or any flammable liquids, you should contact the HPE Public Health Unit.

Another great thing that happens every spring locally is the distribution of seedlings by the City of Belleville. This year’s bare-root seedling giveaway is on May 4 in Market Square behind City Hall (169 Front St.) starting at 9 a.m. Residents can select from a variety of native tree and shrub species, but seedlings are available in limited quantities, so there are restrictions on five seedlings per household and no more than three of the same species. The event will run as long as quantities last; however, supplies are expected to go quickly, so residents are encouraged to get there early.
