So, let’s talk about Valentine’s Day. Are you one of those folks who can’t stand it? Well, you’re definitely not alone. The “Anti-Valentine’s Day” crew seems to be growing lately, and even “The Washington Post” recently ran a piece about it.
Some folks argue that Valentine’s Day is just another one of those “Hallmark holidays” designed to make us splurge on cards, chocolates, and jewelry. Others even say it can mess with your head, especially if you’re flying solo, leaving you feeling left out and down in the dumps.
Think about it, especially for kids in school. Valentine’s Day can be a real bummer, especially for teenagers who haven’t found their special someone yet.
Because of all this, more and more people are saying “no thanks” to Valentine’s Day and proudly embracing their disdain for it. Just take a look at Etsy – they saw a 14% spike in searches for anti-Valentine’s Day gear this year. And those snarky shirts? Searches for those shot up by 34%, with slogans like “Love Is in the Air . . . Try Not to Breathe.”
Even the National Retail Federation got in on the action, reporting that 3% of us were planning to snag anti-Valentine’s Day gifts this year. So, is all this animosity toward Valentine’s Day justified, or are folks just being a tad dramatic?
Well, let’s look at the numbers. According to a recent poll, only 17% of us actually enjoy Valentine’s Day more than your average day. And get this – 22% said they actually enjoy it less! So, what’s your take on the matter? Are you Team Love or Team No Thanks?
