This morning we had Carolyn Ferns on the show from Child Care Ontario to talk about the crisis the child care system is in, not only in the Quinte area or Ontario, but the entire country.
In 2020, the government announced a 10 dollars a day child care system, but in 2024 families are still paying; Infant- $26.46, Toddler- $22.68 and preschooler at $20.79.
But also not all families can get into a licensed child care center. The wait list is currently going into 2026.
Also, the child care funding also only covers children under the age of 6 and before and after school programming is not included in this funding model.
