We’ve got some interesting insights to share about the politeness (or lack thereof) in various Canadian cities. You know, Canada is famous for its politeness, but it seems some places might not be living up to the reputation!
The e-learning platform Preply did some digging into the nitty-gritty. They surveyed around 1,518 people from 44 cities across Canada, all of whom had spent at least a year in their respective cities. Their mission? To spill the beans on how rude their fellow residents are. So, which city do you think takes the crown for being the rudest of them all?
Drumroll, please… Vaughan, Ontario, takes the gold medal in this not-so-friendly competition, scoring a whopping 8.05 out of 10 on the rudeness scale. Ouch, that’s quite the score! And what’s got Vaughan leading the rudeness charts, you ask? Well, it seems like the city’s become a commuter hotspot, which means more traffic and perhaps more frustration. No wonder you might not get that friendly wave when you let someone merge!
But hold on, Vaughan isn’t the only contender in this showdown of manners. Coquitlam, BC, struts in at second place with a rudeness score of 7.85. Could it be the heavy rainfall and steep hills making folks a tad grumpy there? Maybe!
Now, let’s talk about something a bit spicier—swearing! Turns out, Canadians, on average, let out nine colorful words a day. But guess what? Some cities are definitely outpacing the rest in the cussing department. Burlington, Ontario, grabs the top spot with a remarkable 15 swears a day, followed closely by Guelph, Ontario, with 14. It’s like they’ve got a whole vocabulary just for expressing their colorful opinions!
But fear not, good manners aren’t entirely extinct. We’ve got our winners in the politeness category too. Belleville!!!!!!!! Nope…… Markham, Ontario, shines bright with a politeness score of 2.91. Looks like their cultural richness and diverse population have something to do with it. Saguenay, Quebec, and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, also deserve a shoutout for rounding out the top three spots.
Now, before we wrap this up, let’s put things in perspective. Despite some cities showing their not-so-friendly side, Canadians, in general, are still keeping up the polite front. The overall average rudeness score sits at a reasonable 5.41 out of 10. And hey, Canadians are quick to apologize, so that friendly reputation still holds true.
