It seems that the younger generations are getting quite a reputation for being a bit, well, “lazier” when it comes to work. According to a survey by Immigration to Australia, a whopping 77% of those hip Millennials and Gen Z folks, aged 18 to 30, have no plans of returning to their pre-Covid levels of productivity anytime soon. Meanwhile, it seems like the older generations, those Gen Xers and Boomers, are still rocking the work ethic and keeping the motivation alive, with almost 9 out of 10 of them feeling the drive to work hard.
Now, before we start pointing fingers and making accusations, let’s remember that this is just a survey. Maybe the younger folks are just being strategic, taking a breather to recharge their batteries before jumping back into the productivity game. Or maybe they’ve discovered the joys of life outside of work and are determined to find a better work-life balance. Who knows?
One thing’s for sure, though: the workplace dynamics are definitely changing. Gone are the days of our grandparents’ generation, where you had to walk 10 miles uphill in the snow to get to work (okay, maybe not that extreme). But seriously, the world is evolving, and so are our attitudes toward work.
So, let’s not be too quick to label the Millennials and Gen Z as “lazy.” They might just have a different perspective on how work fits into their lives. Who knows, maybe they’re on to something and we’ll all be working from our cozy pajamas in the not-so-distant future.
