Future cops, it’s your lucky day! Premier Doug Ford just made it a whole lot cheaper to become a police officer in the province.
Starting now, the government is covering 100% of tuition fees for the Basic Constable Training program at the Ontario Police College. That’s a whopping $15,450 in savings! And that’s not all, folks. They’re even increasing class sizes to get more officers on the streets as crime rates rise.
But wait, there’s more! You may not even need a degree anymore to join the force! The government is introducing new legislation to remove the post-secondary education requirement in the Community Safety and Policing Act. So, even if you only have a high school diploma, you can still become a police officer.
Now, before you start picturing yourself as the next John McClane, let’s get real. Becoming a police officer in Ontario is no cakewalk. You’ll need to meet the Uniform Recruitment requirements, fill out the OPP Application Package, and take a physical test. But if you make it through all that, you could be on your way to earning an average salary of $95,737.
So, if you’ve been dreaming of a career in law enforcement but thought it was out of reach, now’s the time to start pursuing it. With these new changes, the Ontario Police College is practically begging for fresh blood.
