It’s January and January is the biggest month for on-line dating. It is also a big month for on-line romance scams.
This morning, Sean Kelly and Dr Julie Gowthorpe, RSW are talking about how to protect yourself from those who are posing as love interests only to take your money.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, in the United States alone scammers took in more than $135 million from victims. In Canada, the Anti-Fraud Centre received 1,249 complaints of romance scams from 925 Canadian victims with a loss of more than $50 million in 2021.
