Annually Miriam Webster Dictionary releases the word of the year.
This year, it a word that we’ve used here on MIX morning and it’s likely been thrown around the studio office. Drumroll please….and the word of the year is Gaslighting!
The term comes from a 1940’s movie, Gaslight, where a husband intentionally dims the gaslights in the home and when his wife reacts, he says they never dimmed at all. Like the villain in the movie, people who gaslight aim to make their victim question the reality of the situation so that they depend more and more on the gas lighter.
