A new year brings a new initiative. Over the past several months a small group of dedicated individuals have been working on a project that is near and dear to my heart; The Garrett Mills Legacy Centre.
First and foremost, this will be a facility for anyone living with trauma including vets, first responders – anyone. Our mission is to provide healing through sport; specifically, scuba diving, archery and golf.
The team who have been working on bringing this to fruition are Canadian military veterans themselves. That said, we know (and I speak from first-hand experience), trauma is not exclusive to any one line of profession therefore, we want everyone and anyone to feel welcome to take advantage of this resource.
Currently, we are in the search for an actual facility and, of course, we will be employing a number of fundraising strategies.
I’m excited to see this coming together and am greatly appreciative that we already have a number of sponsors set to be involved. Other plans include offerings of live entertainment, guitar lessons and more.
Garrett’s slogan was (and continues to be) “Get out there and change this world for the better.” We feel this is one tangible way of fulfilling that mantra while honoring his memory.
