It’s hard to choose just one word to describe 2020, which is why the Oxford Dictionary decided to pick TWELVE words that describe 2020 in a nutshell!
Of course “coronavirus” is topping the list, but eleven other words made the list, including: “lockdown,” “social distancing,” “reopening,” “superspreader,” “bushfire,” “impeachment,” “acquittal,” “Black Lives Matter,” “mail-in,” “cancel culture,” and “net zero.”
Oddly enough, ALL of those words can easily describe how much of a dumpster-fire 2020 was and the Oxford Dictionary saw a lot of these words surge in popularity throughout the year.
While “bushfire” and “impeachment” were big in January, COVID-19,” “lockdown,” “social distancing” and “reopening” soon rose in popularity during the spring.
Fingers crossed 2021 can have a more positive word to be the “word of the year!”
