If you have avoided downloading Facebook’s Messenger app on your phone then it looks like you’re going to have to in the near future if you want any DMs on Instagram!
Last year, Facebook announced a plan to merge its three big messaging networks: WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram Direct and it looks like that day is here because if you go into your DMs on the Instagram a message will pop up saying “There’s a new way to message on Instagram.”
Essentially this is to promote that Facebook Messenger will now be the home for any of your DMs on Instagram and it will work kind of like any Facebook messages you may get where you need the Messenger app to look at them on your phone.
The update appears to be rolling out across iOS and Android, and for now, the transition is optional, but you might want to appreciate your DMs a little more this week because soon the paper airplane icon in the top right of your Instagram will be gone!
