The Downtown District is the place to be this summer! Al Fresco is the theme of the season with outdoor eating, shopping and entertainment.
Downtown sidewalks and select parking spaces are being transformed into seating and gathering areas for visitors to take in the beauty of the streetscape, enjoy their meals and shop al fresco (in the open air).
“We’ve created outdoor spaces to enhance the downtown experience and complement the extended restaurant patios to make room for more guests to enjoy the beauty of the downtown,” says Marijo Cuerrier, Downtown District BIA Executive Director. “The parklets and patios take physical distancing into account to ensure visitors are comfortable and feel safe.”

The new parklets and extended patios have already started rolling out. The first parklet is being installed outside Gourmet Diem this week and the second and third parklets will be installed throughout the next 2 weeks. The Downtown District BIA is working with local artists Maria Moreno, Jan Coombs, Elizabeth Coxwell Eby and Renee Hiltz of the Belleville Art Association. They are turning the parklet platforms into walkable art to brighten up the outdoor concrete space.
