The novel coronavirus pandemic means people are being told to stay home, and restaurants have been forced to close their dining rooms. Some have moved to a take-out and delivery model, while others have closed entirely. Now another trend is emerging: some restaurants are converting into grocery stores in order to stay afloat. Grocery items sold by these restaurants vary quite a bit. Some are mostly offering the types of things already in their pantries, such as meats, vegetables, fruit, cheese, milk, and eggs. Others are even selling toilet paper and paper towels. Some of the restaurant owners even say they are offering competitive prices on the groceries they’re selling in order to draw in customers.
