It’s definitely worth celebrating. A 27-year-old woman named Mandy Velez recently shared to Facebook that she finally paid off her student loans from two universities after graduating in 2013 with $75,000 in debt. She celebrated this week by having a photo shoot in Manhattan’s Trinity Church Cemetery, where she wore black clothing and held balloons reading “102K.” She captioned the now-viral photos with, “Ding dong my loans are dead. It is with immense pleasure that I announce the death of my student loans. On August 2, 2019, after six years, I finally killed them. It was a slow death but was worth every bit of the fight.” She says to achieve her goal of being debt-free by 30 she lived off of one-third of her monthly salary, ate a diet of salad, eggs, chicken and rice, said “no” to spending, and took on tons of extra jobs in addition to her day job as a social media editor.
