Go ahead an express yourself, it’s good for your brain– literally. A recent study shows that self-silencing (or stopping yourself from expressing yourself) can lead to a greater buildup of “carotid plaque” in the brain, increasing the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular problems. This was specifically found to be a health issue in postmenopausal women. Study leader Dr. Stephanie Faubion adds, “Studies like this one are valuable as they highlight the importance of understanding how a woman’s emotional disposition can affect her physical health.”
