According to a new, slightly creepy study, most men seem to want a partner who is basically a lot like their mom. The research from eHarmony finds that 64% of men are actually in a relationship with someone who shares many personality traits with their mother, and apparently, that’s totally normal from an evolutionary, psychological point of view.
So guys tend to like girls with traits their mom has, including tolerance, views on monogamy, and agreeableness. But it doesn’t just stop at personality traits. Previous research has found that some men are attracted to partners who share physical traits with their mothers – as in they look like their moms.Urszula Marcinkowska, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of Turku, explains that since mamas are our earliest and closest contact, she becomes the “visual template” men seek out. And that may make sense from an evolutionary standpoint, but it would still be creepy to have a girlfriend that looked a whole lot like dear old mom.
