An 11-year-old boy in China managed to drain his grandfather’s retirement savings by using the man’s phone to tip live-streaming hostesses.
The grandfather, surname Li, was shocked to find nearly $6,000 had disappeared from his account over the course of three days.
After he checked his transaction records he found almost all the money had been paid to iQiyi, one of the largest online video websites in China.
The boy admitted he spent his grandpa’s money to tip and buy presents for his favorite female video game live-streamers on the site.
iQiyi said it would offer a refund to the grandfather following an investigation.
