The Warner Bros. rom-com Crazy Rich Asians opened to an estimated $25.2 million domestically, earning the film the top slot at the box office. The Constance Wu and Henry Golding-toplined film has raked in $34 million total over five years, exceeding industry expectations of $25 million in that time frame. Crazy Rich Asians is seen as a watershed moment for on-screen representation of Asians, CNN notes. It’s the first major studio film featuring a predominantly Asian cast since The Joy Luck Club 25 years ago. Crazy Rich Asians is also the first time a rom-com has topped the box office since June of 2014. The film is based on a novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan, and follows the story of a college professor who heads to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s wealthy family.
Kevin Spacey’s latest film Billionaire Boys Club, meanwhile, is dead on arrival. This is Spacey’s first film project since being accused of sexual misconduct. Allegations against Spacey dating back 30 years surfaced last October. He has since been ousted from several projects, most notably from Netflix’s House of Cards and All the Money in the World (Christopher Plummer was recast). Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton star in Billionaire Boys Club; it opened in 10 theaters and made about $126, meaning less than two tickets were purchased in each theater it opened in.
Meghan Markle’s father Thomas, 74, is talking to the press again. The 74-year-old described the royal family as “cult-like” to The Sun. “They are either like Scientologists or the Stepford family. They are cult-like — like Scientology — because they are secretive. They close the door, pull the shades down and put their fingers in their ears so they don’t have to hear.
Some producers at ABC want Omarosa to compete on the next season of Dancing With the Stars. “Omarosa is the one person they want next season more than anyone else. They have already reached out and are hoping to make a deal with her to join the show for this upcoming season. we will have to wait to see if she takes the bait…. the bait being cash!
The cast of “The Hills” are set to reunite on the red carpet at tonight’s Video Music Awards to make what People.com is calling a “big announcement.” Rumors about a Hills reboot/revival have been happening on and off since it went off the air 8 years ago. it seems Lauren Conrad is out. She reportedly will not be attending the show tonight, nor is she part of the ‘announcement.’ It isn’t too surprising that they might do a reunion or at least a reunion special, considering the success of the Jersey Shore reboot that ended up with 2 seasons.

The film is set to kick off TIFF in September, and will later premiere on Netflix on November 9.
