LEH-LO – Lefty
Leh-lo says” It’s been just over 10 years since my, post Joydrop, debut, solo album, Zigzag was released. It’s a record that I’m very proud of, receiving critical acclaim, and film and television placements. As I watched the music industry completely change, I took a break from focusing on a solo career, and turned my focus to songwriting, touring and recording as a session musician, which took me to stages all over the world, and countless recording sessions.”
I felt that I still needed an outlet for my songwriting and a place to hone my solo artist chops, so I cofounded, and cohosted a singer/songwriter open mic night called Freefall Sundays, at The Supermarket, with my good friend Steve York. It is here that we built a strong, supportive, community of artists, musicians and songwriters, that to this day is the premiere open mic in Toronto. It is also here that I was able to showcase and perform most of the the songs that appear on my new, sophomore, Leh-Lo album, titled Lefty.
Yes, I am left-handed, and as a musician (drums, guitar) it presents its own set of challenges, but it’s a big part of my musical, and creative identity. Lefty is a natural evolution from Zigzag. With Zigzag, I was just discovering my voice, and the songs I wrote for that album were more outward looking and observational. Lefty has 11 songs that are much more personal, emotional, and reflective, written for my voice, 10 years evolved. The common thread is my love for melody, and classic, timeless songwriting. Once again I teamed up with my Joydrop bandmate, and longtime friend, producer Tom McKay, who knows me well, musically, personally and totally got my vision for this record, and helped me take it to the next level. I also had help from some of Toronto’s finest musicians, and vocalists, who also happen be my good friends.
I could not have done this without the support of a talented team and a community of friends. This is where you come in! The recording of Lefty is compete, as is the mixing and the mastering. The artwork is being worked on as we speak, and once that’s done it’s off to manufacturing. Vic Florencia, an amazing mixing engineer, has taken a leap of faith and gone ahead and mixed the record, but the mixing costs have not yet been covered. Same with the cost of artwork, and pressing. I am asking you to also take a leap of faith, by preordering and donating so that I can release Lefty out into the world. I will reward you with lavish gifts in return for your generous contribution. Any funds that exceed my goal will go towards marketing the newly released album. There is no amount too small, every bit helps.Thank you in advance for your support and contribution. You’ll be glad you did. I promise you that!!
