Lights, music, dance! Prepare to be dazzled during the month of June with two performances by the Quinte Ballet School of Canada’s professional and recreational students! Tickets are now on sale for Quinte Ballet School’s (QBSC) annual spring shows, celebrating the end of a long winter with a fresh and varied palette of dance styles and themes. The dancing begins with the recreation division’s community-spirited ‘Assemblé’ on Saturday, June 2nd at 2:30pm, followed by the much-anticipated Professional Division’s powerhouse presentation, ‘Dance of Spring’ on Saturday, June 9th at 7pm. Both performances will be staged at Centennial Secondary School’s spacious theatre auditorium located at 160 Palmer Rd., Belleville.
‘Assemblé’ is a charming and popular afternoon’s entertainment for families. This year’s show features over 20 choreographed works created by QBSC’s professional Artistic staff, from Ballet to Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop, and features student performers aged 4 to 18 from the Quinte area, including PEC, Brighton, Stirling, Trenton and Belleville. Quinte Ballet School is proud of the commitment of their recreational dancers. Catherine Taylor, the school’s Artistic Director, works closely with her staff to create a broad lineup of fun and energetic dance classes every year, including adult classes, and the expanding ‘Dancing with Parkinson’s’ program. ‘Assemblé’ is the culmination of all that the enthusiastic students have learned over the past two terms and provides the opportunity to display their new dance skills.
‘Dance of Spring’ will showcase the immense talent, drive and dedication of the dancers within the professional program, which is made up of local students and students from BC to NFLD. The show packs a lot into the approximately 75-minute line-up with powerful delivery of beautifully executed and varied dance styles, colourful lighting effects and costumes. Catherine Taylor and instructors Gizella Witkowsky, Alina Adjemian and Desirée Botting respectively, have re-worked segments from the classical ballets ‘Paquita’, ‘Tarantella’ from ‘Napoli’ and ‘Swan Lake’, and a mesmerizing contemporary piece entitled ‘Frozen’, while Emma Kerson, Kareem Byfield, and Wayne Corinaldi create original choreography in Modern, Jazz, Pointe and Hip Hop works.
Tickets for the reserved seating events are available at QBSC’s administrative office, over the phone and at the door (pre-purchase and pick-up is always strongly advised). Prices are $22 for Adults, $18 for Seniors and Students, and Children 12yrs and under are $12. There are discounts for groups of 10 or more, and if purchasing a ticket for both shows.
